What is a Browser?

A browser can be defined as a computer program used to view web pages on the internet.  We use browsers to access information and web sites.  The browser I most frequently use is Internet Explorer.  The four most popular web browsers are Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

The Future of Television Navigation

I remember when television sets were equipped with stationary dials that had to be turned by hand in order to navigate through TV stations.  Now we can turn the television channel from the comfort of our favorite chair through the use of a remote control.  We simply aim the device at the television and push buttons to adjust the channel, the volume, and the look of our TV screen.  While surfing the Web, I found that one can even purchase a voice-activated remote control to use with a TV, VCR, DVD, cable box, and/or satellite receiver.  This voice-activated remote control’s channel scan option can be used for hands-free surfing.  I also found a company called Dragon TV that is currently working with Nuance’s Far-Talk technology to create a voice-activated television – no remote necessary.  Viewers could navigate program listings, ask questions about content and time schedules, and search for various program categories to watch – all through the use of voice recognition.  This is an accomplishment that can be met well before fifty years from now.  So in trying to decide how this technology could be taken even further, I found an article that discussed how a paralyzed patient used his brain waves to move a computer cursor.  It makes sense to me that as technology evolves, future televisions will be manipulated the same way – through the use of brain waves.  Maybe through the use of a small device, placed somewhere on the head, that sends signals to the television in order to locate the desired viewing experience.  This may not even take fifty years to accomplish; however, by then it should be available in all homes, and the remote control will be as obsolete as the stationary turn dial.
